You’re interviewing two people for a job. They’re equally competent, capable, and qualified—but you can see that one is wearing an outfit from H&M and the other’s clothes are clearly from Louis Vuitton. Which candidate will you hire?

A new study in the Journal of Business Research suggests you’re more likely to choose the latter. [...] 150 observers watched a video of a woman being interviewed for an internship. Three versions of the video were used, again identical except for the logo on the woman’s shirt. The observers rated the woman on a number of characteristics, but this time they also judged her suitability for the job and the pay she should receive. Observers of the luxury logo rated the woman most suitable for the job, again with significantly higher status and wealth ratings. The luxury observers also thought she deserved the highest compensation. Asked to choose her hourly pay from five ranges, over half of luxury observers chose one of the top two ranges—far greater than the 12% of non-luxury observers and 10% of no-logo observers who did the same.

Doria :  On est le 19 juin et comme vous le savez sûrement, c'est la journée mondiale du naturisme. Donc je m'suis dit que ce serait amusant de marquer l'événement en faisant une météo toute nue. Donc fermez les yeux et ouvrez les oreilles. Alors déjà, bienvenue, le numéro qui s'affiche en bas compte les "nus". Vous serez donc prévenus dès qu'un nu sera survenu. OK ? Alors, compte tenu de la déconvenue, certains diront que la promesse n'est pas tenue. Moi, j'm'en fous, j'continue car un numéro d'une minute, même nul, n'est jamais malvenu. Atchoum ! Pardon, j'éternue. Oui, le contenu est sinueux et ça prend une tournure saugrenue, mais j'suis déjà parvenue à 20 "nus". 21. J'ai donc un rythme soutenu et, croyez-moi, je suis en retenue. Y'a que vous que cette énumération exténue. Et peut-être la personne qui fait le décompte aussi. Alors moi je ne suis en aucun cas guettée par une pénurie de nus et, comme convenu, pas un mot méconnu au menu. Alors inutile de dire que je suis devenue obnubilée par tous ces nus qui s'insinuent dans mon cerveau d'ingénue, un peu nunuche - c'est deux points obtenus. Et, sans nuire à mon score monumental - 41, j'tombe des nus -, et je vais y remonter justement pour observer les nuages minutieusement. Alors en matinée, ça manque de nuance, ils seront retenus au nord. 13 à Nubécourt, 14 au Ménul et 15 à Tournus.

Jean-Michel Apathie : Non, on dit Tournus, Doria.

Doria : Ouais, mais c'est pas grave, c'est comme l'anus, on peut dire "anu".

Jean-Michel Apathie : C'est vous la spécialiste, Doria.

Doria : Alors l'après-midi, la pluie s'est abstenue. On relèvera 25 à Nuart, 24 à Cornu et 28 à Poil où j'ai déjà couru toute nue suite à une déconvenue. Mais je m'arrête là, car passé les 57 nus, ma cadence diminue.

 

 

Et le compte est bon.
